Comments.......: I've just been re-looking at the website. We know very little about John Francis (Jack) Lynskey. He was born in Galway and was the eldest of the children. They lived on a farm. Jack came to England and married Hettie Irene Harris. They had 4 children, Carol 1951, Sue 1955, Kevin 1958 and Dawn 1966. Carol remembers a teenager visiting in the 1960's who was named Timmy or Tommy. He was said to be a nephew of Jack's but now we believe he was his son by another marriage in Ireland? Comments.......: Hi, My name is Mary Pat Lynskey Anderson. My grandfather was born near Knox in County Mayo a few days before the apparation of Our Lady of Knox. His name was James Lynskey. My grandmother's name was Mary Corliss. She was born somewhere in County Mayo also. Sometime in the early 1900's they came to New York, met, fell in love, and married. They moved to the west side of Chicago. They had 4 children. Marie, who will be 92 on Sept. 10, 2002, Helen, John, and my dad, Robert Joseph Lynskey. My dad, after serving in WWII and Korea, joined the Chicago Police Force and when he retired in 1972, he was Deputy Chief of Patrol. He passed away on Oct. 16, 1988. Comments.......: Boy, am I glad I got information on this site. I did not think that there were that Lynskeys. Although I am not a Lynskey, I do carry Lynskey blood through my maternal great-greatmother. Mary Lynskey married a Patrick Durkin in Bohola, County Mayo, Ireland. They had eight children the oldest of whom was Catherine, my Grandmother, born in 1872, who came to the States in the 1892 or thereabouts and settled in Philadaelphia and married a Peter Degnan. I have been trying to trace the Lynskey family but have met with very little success so far. This site has given the most info so far. I am going on a three month vacation and my email for that time will be dkmommom@msn.com I would love to hear from anyone with any information concerning the Lynskeys. Comments.......: My husband's ancestor was John Linskey, b. abt 1830, Ireland; d. abt. 1886, Little Rock, Pulaski, AR. Married Ellen ______ date and place u/k. Places of residence: Memphis, TN, Sherman, TX, & Little Rock, AR. In Little Rock City Directories between 1876 and 1886.

Ellen (?) Linskey, b. June 24, 1832, Skull, Ire., died Nov. 9, 1907, Little Rock. Date and location of death of John not found.

John Linskey was pvt. in Co. F., 1st Heavy Art. (or 2nd Co. D, 1st Tenn. Regt.) in Civil War. Enlisted 8/5/1861, discharged 9/5/1862. Name appears both as Linskey and Linsky in documents. 1880 AR census lists family as: LINSKUI, John, wife, Ellen, daughter, Nora (Lenora).

Did all Linskey's origininate in Galway, Ireland? This gap in the Linskey line has been insurmountable for my husband. We can't even trace Ellen, since we have no maiden name. We have no marriage record for them. They were in the Bledsoe census of Memphis in 1865: John Linskey, Poplar St., males 18-45: 1; females under 6: 1; 18-45: 1. If our records are correct and Lenora Linskey was born Aug. 26, 1867 in Memphis, then the girl under 6 in the Bledsoe census was someone else, unknown to us.

Comments.......: I am Susan Asseff. I live outside Louisville, Kentucky, USA. My great-grandfather was Martin M. Lynskey, who was born in Ireland around 1849 in either County Galway or Mayo. He came to the U.S. between 1860 and 1865, and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. My family believes he came over with his widowed mother, and one brother, another brother may have gone to Australia. Based on some research I have done, I believe that Martin's father's hame was Patrick Lynskey and his mother's name was Bridget Ryan. Martin may have had a sister, Bridget, who married a Thomas Lynskey in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the same time in Cincinnati, Ohio (1860's and 1870's), there were other Lynskeys living on the same streets and some in the same houses, and I think they probably were related. They are as follows: Timothy Lynskey, born around 1838, Michael Lynskey, born around 1841, Mary Lynskey, born around 1845, and Bridget Lynskey, born around 1850. Another Lynskey was William, born around 1843, whose father was James Lynskey according to his burial records. All of the above were born in Ireland. Finally, there was another Lynskey, who was buried in the same cemetery near my great-grandfather. His name was John J. Lynskey, born on 6-20-1850 in Ireland. His father's name was listed as John on his death certificate. John J. Lynskey worked for the railroads, and was married to Julia Madden Lynskey. They had 2 daughters who were born in Iowa: Mary in 1871 and Beatrice (Bridget) in 1875. I have not been able to find any records that tell me where they were from in Ireland, and exactly when they came to America. Jack was a friend of mine in the day wheh he worked for the Socfin plantation company in Malaysia. He joined them in 1948 and I the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia in 1950. Their eldest son was my Great Grandfather Patrick. They also had twin sons one of them was Martin and the other was Jack - also a daughter they called Maggie who married a Jack Jones. An older daughter, MATHILDA LYNSKEY, was already living in this same area with MARGARET and PATRICK DEGNAN and JULIA and JOHN DEGNAN. One, if not both, the DEGNAN women were originally named LAVELLE and were sister(s) to ANNE (LAVELLE) LYNSKEY. These individuals had left Westport, Co. Mayo, earlier. We do know that AUSTIN and ANNE LYNSKEY lived on Peter Street, Westport, Co. Mayo, and had several other children. We have a certified copy of the birth of JULIA ANNE LYNSKEY (March 20, 1864), Peter Street, Westport, Co. Mayo. We have very little information on any of the other children. An older daughter named MARY LYNSKEY married FELIX KELLY. Their known children: THOMAS A.(d. 3-5-1921. Children: Thomas F., Maisie, Agnes); EDWARD J. (died in Wisconsin); JOHN (settled in Philadelphia); MARGIE MCKEOUGH (5125 Dittman St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Daughter named ROSE, who moved to Davenport, Iowa, and sons).
