Hello
My name is Belinda Lynskey And I live in australia Candberra.
Bie for now BELINDA
My grandmother, Mary Barrett, (born 1899, died 1991), was Mary Lynskey before she married. She was born In Bingham's Town on The Mullet, a narrow peninsula near the town of Belmullet, on the west coast of Co. Mayo, Ireland. My grandmother moved to Elly Point, 5 miles from Bingham's Town when she married (and became a Barrett). My mum has often wondered about the origin of her mother's surname Lynskey and I'm now searching the web to find out more. I stumbled across this website and thought I'd leave a note. My email is Anne.Sparks@virgin.net Happy to receive any useful feedback.

Just ran across your web site and was surprised. Heard you were over to Luzerne for my brothers funeral. Chick called me and filled me in on the funeral. She sounded real good and we hope and pray for her. Gilbert will be missed by all who ever came in contact with him. We send our best to you and Debbie and son. Love, Uncle Stub and Dolly. e-mail: lcp228@bellsouth.net.
Happy Birthday to Lucille Lynskey! I just found this site. Gaston was my father's first cousin. On travels to Virginia to visit my grandparents we always stopped over to visit with Gaston and Lucille and stay with Anne and Walter Biller. James Lynskey

I noted with interest an entry on the project spreadsheet, that of Michael Lynsky and Bridget Haran of Mayo, Ireland. I'm wondering if they could be my great-great grandparents. The names and location fit.
My folks with those names resided in Culmore, near Swinford; married 6 April 1862; are listed on the 1901 census (Bridget appears on the 1911 census with her son's family); had a family including such names as Peter, William, Ann, Patrick and Michael (my great grandfather who later married Bridget Devaney).
I'd be really interested to find out if the names on the spreadsheet tie up and also to track down what happened to some of the Lynskey family from Culmore who emigrated to the US (especially Peter born 1872 and William born 1876).

My name is Stephen Mc Grath. My mother Mary is a Lynskey from Swinford in Co Mayo (Ireland). She married and now we are living in Dublin. She is the daughter of the late Mary and Martin Lynskey. She has a brother Anthony (Tony) living with his family in Swinford. I am amazed at how many Lynskey's there are in the world. I am only 16 but i have great interest in finding all my mothers side of the family and having a large reunion, i know that is more or less impossible but i am willing to give it a go. Please email me smcgrath20@hotmail.com regards Stephen

Hello,
My mother's name was Mary Lynskey. She was born in Chicago in 1913 and her parents were James and Delia Lynskey. James died in 1913 and Delia in 1920. My mother was raised in Chicago and died in 1975, but had very little information on her parents. I do know that James was from Foxford (in County Galway, I believe). I would love to be able to connect with my Lynksey relatives! Please let me know if you have any information---thank you! My email is gdolan@nvcc.edu

My names is James C. Linsky. My great great grandfather, John Linsky was born in County Mayo in 1809 and migrated with his wife Mary Mullin to United States in either 1837 or 1847 (more likely the later). It is rumored my surname may have been derived from Lynskey, which apparently was an island(key). Any information anyone has as to the possible relationship between Lynskey and Linsky, the history of the name, and tracing my surname in County Mayo would be appreciated. My email address is Clark66@aol.com
This is to Jan Lynskey Cotter-Harris who entered comments on November 23,2004. The line you are searching I believe is also mine. Timothy was my Great Grandfather and his son William has been difficult to locate. Please make contact thru email @ Linsky1@myfam.com . It would make sense to have a grandson named James since that was William's middle name. My name is Beverly L. Linsky from Fort Wayne, IN. I am also the same religion doing work on the tree for 37 years. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello, my name is Shannon Thomas. I live in CA in the U.S. I'm so excited to find this web site as I have been researching the Lynskey side of my family for over a year and keep hitting dead ends. I'm hoping someone out there can help me, give me info or is maybe even related to me! The information I have is: my great-great grandmother was Mary Lynskey born (I'm pretty sure in Mayo) Ireland around 1868 and emigrated to the U.S. around 1881 and married Patrick Ryan. They had two children, William and Evelyn, who were born in Kentucky and whose Godparents were Sara Lynskey and Nicholas Lynskey (possibly siblings of Mary). I know for sure she had a sister named Delia Lynskey who also came to the U.S. I know Mary died around 1900.
Also, I have an 1851 census record from County Mayo, Townland Cloonanoff, Parish of Kilcommon, barony of Kilmaine. This lists another Mary Lynskey born around 1791 as head of house and that her husband (looks like Patt-maybe Patrick?) died in spring of 1850 of dysentry. She had a son (looks like Watt or Waff or Will?) who was 15 in 1851.
I'm desperate for info. If this sounds familiar, please email me at cuileanjohn@msn.com Thanks!!

My mother was born Rozanne Lynskey in New Zealand in 1930. After travelling around the world in the 1950's she settled in Australia to have her family. We have heard two variations on the origins of the name Lynskey. In the first version a family feud took place between the Lynch family. As a result of the feud some family members changed their name to Lynskey. In the second version I have only recently heard, a Judge Lynch apalled people when he ordered a man to be hanged. (Apparently this is where the term lynching came from.) To distance themselves from the judge the lynch's changed their name to Lynskey. Do you know which, if either version is true? My name is Maureen Lynskey..... I live in Kitchener Ontario.
Hello,
I am tracing my family tree on my fathers side. The Fitzgerald's of Mayo, Ireland moved to Heywood, Lancashire UK in the 1800's. A Michael Lynskey is resident at their house in the UK 1871 census who later married Winifred Fitzgerald, older sister of my Great Grandma Mary Fitzgerald. Mary went on to marry Martin Flaherty also from Mayo, Ireland. I can't find much more on the Lynskey's from the UK end so I am wondering if they left the country for pastures new...
Grateful for any feedback.
Cheers
